    The CASE Graduate Trainee Program - North America is a unique opportunity to develop a range of skills and experience while performing a yearlong residency at a host institution in North America. In addition, residents benefit from access to professional development at CASE’s Summer Institute, a designated CASE district conference, webinars and mentoring. Residents have the opportunity to build an invaluable, supportive network of peers.

    July 2021 – June 2022.

    Trainees work within assigned area(s) of an advancement office of an educational institution, gaining experience and developing skills in prospect management, annual giving, stewardship, fundraising campaigns, major gifts, events and partnerships. The breadth of the experience provides residents with a well-rounded view of fundraising within education and the role it plays in supporting institutions. Selected residents receive:

    • Employment as a resident by a host university on a 50‐week contract. Residents receive salary and benefits determined by their host institution placement in conjunction with the institution’s entry-level pay and grading structure.
    • Professional development from CASE including CASE’s flagship conference on educational fundraising (IEFR) and one designated CASE district conference. Participation in online professional development, including CASE online courses, webinars and career seminars.
    • A cohort experience, in which residents will network throughout the year.
    • A mentor, along with networking opportunities via CASE e-Mentoring and access to CASE professional communities.
    • Connection to a designated talent management/career coach.
    • Yearlong membership to CASE.
    • Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree and must be interested in entering the education fundraising profession. The trainee can either be new to the institution’s advancement office or a current employee of the institution interested in transitioning into a fundraising role. Must be able to work in the United States or Canada without sponsorship

    Simply put: Institutions know CASE. Being able to put that you were a CASE Graduate Trainee on your resume will set you a part when you’re ready to look for your first advancement job!

    The application has closed for the 2021-2022 Program

    December 31, 2020. No applications will be accepted after this date.

    You are applying to the CASE Graduate Trainee Program US & Canada and not a specific institution. You will have the opportunity to select the institution(s) you would like your application sent to, inside the online application, should you be selected to move forward in the program.  CASE will ultimately select which institution(s) receives your application. Please only select institutions that you would have a strong interest in if selected. You don’t want to waste a host institution’s time if you are not serious about relocating to the host institution’s town, city or state for the 50 weeks.

    The host institutions determine the position, provides the job description, supervisor, and day to day responsibilities on the campus.

    CASE will contact you the week of January 11, 2021 regarding your application status. Should you be selected to move forward in the recruitment process you will be required to attend a virtual CASE assessment session,.

    CASE will contact you the week of February 1, 2021 regarding your application status. Should you be selected to move forward in the recruitment process your application will be sent directly to a host institution. Hosts will reach out directly to candidates to schedule interviews in accordance with their normal hiring process.

    Applicants will be notified if they have been selected by May 2021. Should a host institution need an extension to make their final decision, applicants will be notified.

    We recommend you having a conversation with any hosts who have made you an offer and set an agreed upon time that you will contact them to either accept or decline the offer. Because hosts will want to offer the opportunity to other candidates should you decline, we recommend making a decision within one week of being offered the position.

    Normally, housing is not provided by the institution, leaving the responsibility to you. Begin to prepare. If you have been selected by an institution that does not provide housing, we recommend you start early in finding a place to live that meets your needs.

    Your host institution will go over how and when you will be issued your compensation.

    CASE will send you your official Graduate Trainee Program US and Canada welcome letter. You will also receive correspondence from CASE and your host institution in the months leading up to your residency. All residents are required to participate in an onboarding webinar before the residency starts that outlines resident expectations, policies and what to expect from your residency program.

    Since 2018, Graduate Trainee Program US and Canada hosts have benefited from the smart and passionate high-caliber residents in the program. Many institutions find the program a great way to spot talent and build the advancement pipeline. Several of our host institutions have gone on to hire former residents in fundraising positions.
