The following candidates are being recommended to fill open positions on the CASE Board of Trustees and CASE’s other senior volunteer groups. These slates were developed by Leadership Committees at the Board, Regional Council, and District Cabinet levels as required by the CASE Bylaws.

In June, Member Coordinators at each CASE member institution will receive an email ballot to vote for or against the proposed slate of candidates for the Board as well as the proposed candidates for their respective Regional Council and District Cabinets, if applicable. Each institution is entitled to one vote.

If elected, these individuals will begin their service in July 2026.

Matthew Lambert

MATTHEW LAMBERT
Senior Vice President for University Advancement
William & Mary
2-Year Term

Matthew Lambert is concurrently the Chief Executive Officer of the William & Mary Foundation and the Senior Vice President for University Advancement at William & Mary. He oversees the university’s constituent and regional development; alumni engagement; campaign operations and principal gifts; lifetime philanthropic engagement and annual giving; university marketing and communications; events; and strategic advancement initiatives. Prior to William & Mary, Matthew was the Associate Vice President for University Development at Georgetown University. During his 11 years at Georgetown, Matthew held a variety of roles incorporating major gifts and annual fund together with alumni and volunteer engagement. Matthew is active in public policy research and is the author of Privatization and the Public Good, published by Harvard Education Press and co-editor of Advancing Higher Education, published by Roman & Littlefield. Matthew has been a frequent CASE speaker, including serving on the faculty of the CASE Academy. He currently serves as Treasurer on the CASE Board of Trustees and was previously the Board Secretary and an At-Large Trustee.

Mo Cotton Kelly

MONTIQUE (MO) COTTON KELLY
Chief People Officer and Senior Vice President for Alumni Relations
University of Connecticut Foundation
2-Year Term

Mo Cotton Kelly is the Chief People Officer and Senior Vice President of Alumni Relations at the University of Connecticut Foundation. In her role, she leads talent development, alumni engagement, employee support and experience, Board of Directors operations, and workplace culture. Prior to her current role, she was the Senior Vice President for Stakeholder Engagement and Chief Operating Officer for the Foundation. Mo joined the UConn Alumni Association as the Executive Director and Assistant Vice President for Alumni Relations in 2014 having previously served as the Executive Director of Bowling Green State University’s Alumni Association. Mo is a long-time CASE volunteer, having served as Chair of CASE District I and a member of the CASE Summit for Leaders in Advancement Planning Committee. She is a frequent CASE speaker and faculty leader and is a CASE Laureate. Mo currently serves a Secretary on the CASE Board of Trustees and was previously an At-Large Trustee.

Lee Fertig

LEE FERTIG
Head of School
The Nueva School
2-Year Term

Lee Fertig is currently the Head of School at Nueva School in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has more than 30 years of school leadership and teaching experience in a wide variety of educational settings including five international schools (in Ethiopia, Brazil, Spain, and Belgium), an independent school in New York City, and a voluntary integration public magnet school in Minneapolis. Lee is a trainer for the Principals’ Training Center (PTC), has taught in the College of Education at the University of Minnesota, and is a guest speaker on contemporary educational issues at a wide variety of community events. He provides consulting services for schools and educational organizations around the world in the areas of governance, development and fundraising, learning innovation, and school-based continuous improvement. Lee is a former Trustee of the Association for the Advancement of International Education, the Global Issues Network, and the Sao Paulo Education Foundation. He has served as Vice Chair of the CASE Europe Regional Council and a member of both the CASE Global Task Force and the Curriculum Task Force. Lee is currently an At-Large Trustee on the CASE Board of Trustees.

Armin Afashi

ARMIN AFSAHI
Vice President for Alumni Relations and Development
University of Chicago
3-Year Term

Armin Afsahi began serving as Vice President for Advancement at The University of Chicago in April 2023. In this role, he leads the University’s strategy, direction, and organization for development, alumni relations, and campaign planning. He works closely with UChicago’s president, provost, deans, officers, and board of trustees to advance the University’s mission through the intellectual, social, professional, and philanthropic engagement of the University community. Prior to joining the University of Chicago, he held senior roles in advancement at multiple universities including the University of Denver, University of California San Diego, Georgetown University, and Harvard University, respectively. Armin is a long-time CASE volunteer and frequent speaker. In 2018 he received the coveted CASE Crystal Apple Award for Teaching Excellence and is a CASE Laureate. He has been a member of the CASE District VII Cabinet and is a member of the CASE 50. Armin currently serves as an At-Large Trustee on the CASE Board of Trustee.

 

Barbara Dick

BARBARA DICK
Assistant Vice-President, Alumni Relations
University of Toronto
3-Year Term

Barbara Dick is Assistant Vice-President Alumni Relations at the University of Toronto and leads the University’s efforts to engage the University’s more 720,000 alumni worldwide in support of the University’s mission and the Defy Gravity Campaign’s ambitious alumni engagement goals. Barbara is a sought after volunteer and frequent presenter in Canada and around the world and she served as the first Canadian President of the Council for Alumni Association Executives (CAAE), an organization comprised of leading research universities with significant alumni populations. Barbara was also a member of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Governance Committee of the Young People’s Theatre, Canada’s largest and longest standing children’s theatre company. In 2019, Barbara was recognized with the Chancellor’s Award for Influential Leaders as part of the University of Toronto’s Awards of Excellence program. Barbara is the current Chair of CASE’s Commission on Alumni Relations and serves as an At-Large Trustee on the CASE Board of Trustees.

 

Binti Harvey

BINTI HARVEY
Vice President, External Relations and Institutional Advancement
Scripps College
3-Year Term

Binti Harvey is the Vice President, External Relations and Institutional Advancement for Scripps College, a women’s and liberal arts institution and a member of the Claremont Colleges. In her role as chief fundraising and marketing and communications officer, she is responsible for developing and executing programs to amplify Scripps’ brand, increase philanthropic support, and deepen constituent engagement to advance the College’s mission. Prior to Scripps, she led the design and implementation of institutional branding and fundraising marketing strategies for the California Institute of Technology. As a political aide, Binti led advocacy and strategic communications initiatives for the Mayor of Los Angeles and the Superintendents of the Los Angeles and Pasadena Unified School Districts. She is the current Chair of CASE’s Commission on Communications and Marketing and is a frequent speaker at both CASE and the American Marketing Association events. Binti is an At-Large Trustee on the CASE Board of Trustees.

 

Duncan Ivison

DUNCAN IVISON
President and Vice-Chancellor
University of Manchester
3-Year Term

Professor Duncan Ivison is the President and Vice-Chancellor of The University of Manchester. Originally from Montréal, Canada, Duncan has held academic roles across several leading universities, including the Australian National University, the University of York (UK), and the University of Toronto. He spent more than two decades at the University of Sydney, where he held major leadership positions including Head of the School of Humanities, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research). Duncan has taught and published extensively, and his work has been recognised with the 1993 Robert Mackenzie Prize (LSE) and the 2004 CB Macpherson Prize for the best book in political theory. Duncan has been deeply involved in shaping conversations about the future of universities, research, innovation, and economic development and he is particularly passionate about public engagement and building strong partnerships between universities, communities, industry, and government. Duncan was a key participant in CASE’s recent online Leadership Conversations online seminar.

 

Shaun Keister 2025

SHAUN KEISTER
Vice Chancellor, Development and Alumni Relations
University of California, Davis
3-Year Term

Shaun Keister has served as the University of California, Davis’ first Vice Chancellor for Development and Alumni Relations since 2011. He functions as the university’s chief fundraising officer and President of the UC Davis Foundation. In his role as Vice Chancellor, he also serves on the Chancellor’s Leadership Council. Previously, Shaun served in leadership development roles at Penn State, Florida State, and Iowa State Universities. In addition, he has over 30 years as an independent fundraising consultant serving clients including the San Francisco opera, Steppenwolf Theatre, World Wildlife Fund, The Nature Conservancy, and more than 60 public and private universities. Shaun is a CASE Laureate and the recipient of the prestigious CASE Crystal Apple Award for Teaching Excellence. He has served on the CASE Commission on Philanthropy, the CASE District VII Cabinet, and the CASE Summit for Leaders in Advancement Planning Committee. He is a current member of the CASE 50.

 

Thomas Lockerby

THOMAS (THOM) LOCKERBY
Secretary of the Academy
Phillips Academy
3-Year Term

Thom Lockerby serves as Secretary of the Academy at Phillips Academy, a coeducational boarding and day school in Massachusetts. In his role he leads the alumni engagement, development, and communications initiatives for the school. Recently he served a sabbatical role as Senior Philanthropy Consultant at Eton College, a boys’ boarding school in Berkshire, England. Thom has spent much of his career working in and consulting with charities, focusing on major and planned gift fundraising as well as organizational leadership. Prior to joining Andover, Thom was the Vice President for Development at Boston College. He also previously served as Director of Gift Planning at Dartmouth College, Relationship Manager at Kaspick & Company, Vice President at PG Calc Incorporated, and Director of Development Relations at Harvard Business School. Thom is a CASE Laureate and the former Chair of the CASE Independent Schools Leadership Group, which is a community of the 50 top-performing independent schools in the U.S. He is also a member of the Global Schools Summit Steering Committee.

 

Helen Pike

HELEN PIKE
Master
Magdalen College School
3-Year Term

Helen Pike serves as the Master of Magdalen College School, an independent coeducational school in Oxford, England. Prior to her appointment in September 2016, she served as Head of South Hampstead High School where she oversaw a two-year £35 million major building project. In June 2014, The Good Schools Guide named Helen one of the ‘Ten Heads to Watch.’ She previously taught at several leading independent schools including Westminster School, City of London School, St. Paul’s School, and The Royal Grammar School, Guildford. Helen currently serves as a member of the Sutton Trust Education Advisory Board. She writes historical and political fiction and is a regular contributor to various newspapers and journals. Helen is a frequent CASE speaker and is currently an At-Large Trustee on the CASE Board of Trustees.

 

Gretchen Wood

GRETCHEN WOOD
Vice President, Institutional Advancement and Executive Director, MCC Foundation
Monroe community College
3-Year Term

Gretchen Wood is Vice President of Institutional Advancement for Monroe Community College (MCC) and Executive Director of the Monroe Community College Foundation. In addition to overseeing the College’s Community Relations, Institutional Research, Institutional Planning, Effectiveness and Accountability, and Institutional Compliance and Internal Audit departments, she facilitates a comprehensive fundraising program in support of the College. She serves on the American Association of Community Colleges’ Commission on Public Relations, Advocacy, and Advancement and the Association of Governing Board’s Council of Foundation Leaders. Holding the designation as a CASE Laureate, Gretchen is a former Chair of the CASE District II Cabinet and a member of the CASE Community College Advisory Committee. She was the recipient of the 2025 CASE Commonfund College and University Foundation Award.
