Bio

Alex Connock is an academic and executive in media and marketing.

Academically, Alex is Fellow in Management Practice at Saïd Business School, teaching Marketing at undergraduate, graduate and executive education levels. He specialises in media, arts and entertainment (in which he teaches an elective) and has a PhD in video optimisation for e-commerce.

Alex is also a Lecturer at St Hugh’s College, Oxford, in Management. He is Senior Tutor at the UK’s National Film and Television School of the Creative Entrepreneurship Masters degree, and Visiting Professor at Salford University. Alex has degrees from Oxford (PPE) Columbia (Journalism) INSEAD (MBA) and Salford (PhD). And in 2021 he is co-directing a new executive education diploma in Artificial Intelligence in Business.  

Commercially, Alex has created and grown multiple media companies, most recently founding development company Missile. From 2012-17 he was Managing Director of TV and digital production business Endemol Shine North (now Workerbee) through a period of substantial growth. Between 1998 and 2011 he co-founded, and ran as CEO, the media group Ten Alps (now Zinc Media) with Bob Geldof - producing hundreds of programmes for UK and international broadcasters, as well as substantial digital and branded content output, including the UK government's Teachers TV project. He has been six times shortlisted as Entrepreneur of the Year. He has worked directly for BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and PEOPLE Magazine, and for hundreds of commercial clients and broadcasters via his production companies. 

Non-executive roles and directorships include UNICEF UKThe Halle Orchestra and startups including Kiisa (art investment). He is also Deputy Chair of the creative industries committee of the UK5G Innovation Network, a voting member at BAFTA and a Patron of the Edinburgh International Television Festival. He speaks extensively at conferences on media and business.
