“Chemistry” was published in the UH Alumni Association’s biannual alumni publication entitled “Alumline.” The article profiles UH alumna Cynthia Coleman P.E. (’71), who blazed a trail for minority women in the STEM field. When Coleman enrolled as a freshman at the University of Houston's Cullen College of Engineering, she was the only female student, and the only Black woman in the Chemical and Bimolecular Engineering Department. After graduating from the University of Houston as the first Black woman in STEM, Coleman went on to be very successful, and continues to mentor women and minorities in engineering.
