Meet Anne Dale, Dentistry’s Unofficial Historian
From the Nominator
Since the 1970s, Dr. Anne Dale has had what many would see as a curious side project–but one that she considers her duty.
Dale, who graduated from U of T’s Faculty of Dentistry in 1958, collects artifacts that illustrate the history of her profession from the early 19th Century to the present. She maintains the collection in a room overflowing with vintage portraits, scary dental tools, and even one dentist’s gold-crowned “swagger cane.”
“I’ve spent my life doing this, and I’d do it again because I love dentistry,” Dale told U of T Magazine, which sent both a writer and photographer to the quirky museum.
Dale was more than happy to take a U of T Magazine writer and photographer on a tour of the museum. The resulting story appeared in the magazine’s spring 2020 issue.
