Like many institutions, as a result of COVID-19, all of our in-person alumni programming was indefinitely postponed, and our newly graduated class of alumni felt discouraged and as though their welcome into the alumni world was stifled. So we asked ourselves how we could tackle both of those challenges at once. Our solution was the creation of the UNO Maverick Pen Pal Program! This program solicited participation from the Class of 2020, and also from alumni over the age of 65. The premise was to connect the newer alumni who are facing weird and uncertain times with older alumni who are a little more familiar with such circumstances. Through this program we wanted to forge connections, heighten spirits, and reignite Maverick pride.
