2017 Robert Sibley Magazine of the Year Winner: TCNJ (New Jersey)
TCNJ Magazine, published by The College of New Jersey, Division of College Advancement, has won the 2017 Robert F. Sibley Award, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education's award for excellence in the field of alumni magazine publishing.
The Sibley judges expressed a pure enjoyment with this well-crafted magazine. Comments included:
"I wanted to share this magazine with someone else, and I did!"
"I could see myself in this magazine-as a proud alumni."
"There was a sense of home-very welcoming throughout the pages."
Time and time again, the judges imagined being a TCNJ alumni--the pride they'd have with this publication coming from their alma mater. They felt this approachable and fun publication served its audience well.
Editorial and art choices stood out to the panel, with comments such as "body copy was easy to read," "smart editing and smooth language throughout" and "the layouts highlight the strength of the photos."
Sections showed innovate approaches to traditional alumni magazine contents; stand-outs included Upfront, Class Notes, and of course, the features. Current and engaging topics, included the cover story, "Trenton Makes Music" which also included a cover photo of Sarah Dash, a local R& B singer, and "Emotional triage for Syrians," which included a judge favorite photo of Abrar Ebady '17.
Overall, the panel commented how the magazine provided great variety with lots of entry points. It was a magazine they truly enjoyed reading.
On a final note, the judges added, "TCNJ seems like a great place to be! I want to go to Trenton now!"
