Jerry May
About the Honoree
Jerry May retired as Vice President for Development, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor on December 31, 2018 and currently serves as Vice President Emeritus, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
May has a 30-year history of volunteering and supporting CASE, serving as a member of the CASE Board of Trustees, the CASE 50 Steering Committee and faculty at numerous CASE conferences, including Summit and the Big Ten Fundraising Institute. An early adopter of the principles of talent management in advancement, May’s leadership in the creation of Michigan’s Development Summer Internship Program is especially noteworthy. Now in its 13th year, D-SIP has produced 291 graduates, nearly a quarter of which work within development, 18 of them at the University of Michigan alone.
“Jerry believes passionately in the transformative power of public higher education and he has devoted his life to working with philanthropists who seek to support new innovations in science and technology, to find cures for debilitating diseases, and to teach students the joy of learning,” wrote his nominators, Rhea Turteltaub, Vice Chancellor for External Affairs at the University of California at Los Angeles, and Lynette L. Marshall, President, University of Iowa Center for Advancement.

About the Award
The Frank L. Ashmore Award for Service to CASE and the Advancement Profession honors a current or former staff member at a CASE-member institution or educational partner who has served CASE in extraordinary ways. The American College Public Relations Association, a CASE predecessor organization, first presented this award in 1968. Originally known as the Presidential Citation, it was renamed in 1973 to honor the memory of Frank L. Ashmore, the director of ACPRA from 1959 to 1961.
