Eric Tsz Chung Chow — Alumni Relations
Alumni Engagement Officer, University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine
In 2018, Eric returned to his alma mater, the University of British Columbia, to join the faculty of medicine as the alumni engagement coordinator and since 2020 has served as the alumni engagement officer. In this role, Eric manages communications to the faculty’s diverse alumni population, supports the UBC Medical Alumni Association, and collaborates with colleagues to create and foster opportunities for alumni to engage with UBC. Whether he’s creating an avenue to provide financial support for student initiatives, a virtual health and wellness activity week, or even a beautiful colouring book, Eric works to elevate alumni engagement programming in meaningful ways. A thoughtful colleague once said, “alumni relations is the business of people,” a sentiment that Eric takes to heart as he strives to connect and understand the needs of alumni in order to find the right opportunities for engagement.
Passionate about equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) issues, Eric endeavours to use his intersectional, lived experience as a first-generation settler from Hong Kong and member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community to increase awareness and create change through his work and community service. He hopes his efforts in the EDI space help elevate the voices of marginalized people and create opportunities for everyone to live and thrive with safety, dignity, and respect. Outside of work, Eric pursues personal storytelling and writing projects, and is an avid volunteer, leading EDI practices at Vancouver Startup Week and mentoring local residents to build community with each other at Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives.
