Minority Serving Institutions
Overview:
Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) enroll over 5 million students and are critical in providing access and opportunities for traditionally underrepresented and low-income students. As part of the CASE Opportunity and Inclusion Center (OIC), it focuses on building advancement capacity, sustaining student access and creating opportunities for minority and first-generation and low-income students. This effort emerged out of a two-year planning process funded by the Kresge Foundation and guided by a volunteer task force.
The OIC supports colleges and universities designated as minority serving institutions:
- Asian American Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (ANNAPISIs)
- Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions (ANNHs)
- Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs)
- Hispanic Serving institutions (HSIs)
- Native American-Serving Non-Tribal Institutions (NASNTIs)
- Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs)
- Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs)
Key Priorities
- Enhance the MSI community, which serves as a shared space for questions, information and best practices.
- Provide professional development and training opportunities for advancement professionals, including leadership and trustees.
- Offer access to CASE resources designed to increase awareness of resources available to advancement professionals.
- Build the advancement profession by introducing the advance profession as a viable career option to students
