CASE District VIII 2020 Rising Star Awards
CASE District VIII is honored to recognize four early career professionals who are already making a mark within our district!
Meet our 2020 Rising Star Award recipients, who were honored during the opening luncheon of the 2020 CASE VIII Conference in January.
Lena Hozaima
Lena Hozaima serves as the associate director, advancement for the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta where she oversees funding of clinical and research learner supports for the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Department of Pediatrics, Department of Family Medicine, Sports Medicine, Elderly Community Care and Rural Medicine. Known for her warm, compassionate and energetic personality (and love of chocolate!), she is recognized for her strong communication, exceptional collaborative donor relationship building, proposal writing, analysis and research skills. During her short time at UAlberta, her professionalism and dedication in building relationships between the faculty departments, Advancement office and campus corporate partners, increased donor trust to open funding opportunities for the faculty and university. Through her innovative strategic planning, leadership qualities and spirit of inter-departmental team collaboration approach, Lena successfully secured a $5 million donation during her first 10 months at UAlberta. Lena was previously at Langara College Foundation prior to her term appointment at UAlberta and is an alumna of UBC (Advanced Nursing Degree), University of Manitoba (BSc.Hons; MSc.) and Queen’s University Smith’s School of Business Executive Certification Program.
Lyndsay Montina
For the last three years, Lyndsay Montina has worked as the manager of alumni relations at her alma mater, the University of Lethbridge. In this time, she has elevated the standard of alumni programming on all levels, from the student to alumni transition piece to the governance within the Alumni Association. Through her commitment to maintaining strong relationships, she has positioned herself as a leader within her institution and amongst her team. Lyndsay is also a graduate of the Master of Arts in Leadership program at Royal Roads University and incorporates her value of lifelong learning into all that she does. Outside of her career, she has maintained active involvement in the governance of multiple charitable organizations and, in 2017, was awarded a Woman of Distinction award in the category of Leadership and Management.
Petra Khan
Petra Khan serves as the social media content manager at the University of Portland. In her role, Petra manages the university’s main social media pages, develops strategy for various departments and oversees a team of students. Petra joined University of Portland’s marketing and communications department in November 2018 and was recently promoted to a managerial role. Petra received her bachelor’s degree in strategic communication from Temple University in 2016 and is currently pursuing her MBA from the University of Portland.
Lara Meyer
Lara Meyer first joined the annual giving team at Whitman College in 2016, then served as a development officer and has led in the director of annual giving role since April 2019. Since assuming her leadership post, Lara has worked closely with her team to transition staff responsibilities and implement new tactics within existing programs. Lara is motivated by her team’s commitment to digging into today’s challenges and is passionate about supporting a liberal arts education as Whitman prepares for its next campaign.
