Cindy Spiker
Bio
Cindy Spiker has been president of one of Truman’s most successful alumni chapters for 20 years. The Iowa Alumni Chapter has consistently hosted roughly one event a month for more than a decade. As impressive as it is to maintain such an ambitious calendar of events, the hallmark of the Iowa Chapter is not just the quantity of events but also the quality, thoughtfulness, and diversity of their programming. They have coordinated art walks with Truman faculty, served as a group in their local community, assembled care packages for current students, welcomed future alumni at new student events, and hosted fan favorites such as the ICubs baseball game, just to name a few. A great deal of effort is put into connecting alumni by creating a diverse calendar of events that has something for everyone.
Throughout the years, Cindy’s leadership of the chapter has been a constant driving force behind these efforts - pulling the volunteers in the region together to continue impressive programming that connects alumni back to Truman. Over her years as president, she has cultivated a strong board of volunteers at the Chapter level. She does a fantastic job of recognizing, cultivating, and supporting alumni leaders and empowering them to select, plan and host events. The Iowa Alumni Chapter board is among the most diverse and strongest of all Truman’s alumni chapters. None of this would be possible without Cindy’s investment not just in the University but in its alumni, friends, and students.
Cindy has also served as a member of both the Alumni Board of Directors and the Foundation Board of Directors. In both of these roles, she served a maximum term length, devoting six years to each board. During her twelve years on these boards, she was an active and vital member, bringing her passion, resources, and expertise to improving the experience for Truman alumni and donors. While a member of the Foundation Board, she also served on the regional campaign committee that was essential to the University successfully meeting the goals of 2 capital campaigns.
In addition to making significant investments of time and talent in her alma mater, Cindy has generously invested her treasure in Truman as well, donating generously to the University, creating an endowed scholarship at Truman in 2007. In addition to her own philanthropy to Truman, she has paved the way for others to invest in student scholarships. Through her work with the Iowa Alumni Chapter, the chapter has also established an endowed scholarship benefitting Truman students from Iowa. Through her financial support and leadership, she ensures that Truman can recruit, retain and support outstanding students.
