About the CASE Council for Europe
The Council is responsible for overseeing the implementation of CASE's strategy and member engagement across Europe. Each Council member is appointed to a three-year term of office, and can serve a maximum of two terms. There are two meetings of the Council a year, held at different locations in Europe. CASE will cover any travel expenses required to attend meetings. Between meetings, Council members support the CASE Europe region in a variety of ways, guiding strategic priorities and acting as advocates for CASE's work. Find out more about the responsibilities of the CASE Council for Europe.
The Council aims to represent the breadth of CASE member institutions and bring together perspectives from diverse lived experiences. In preparation for the search for new members, we have mapped the experience and demographics of existing members who will continue to serve on the Council, in order to identify gaps.
Among the continuing Council members, there is a good balance in the gender profile, of experience in the advancement disciplines and of types of higher education institutions represented. There is underrepresentation of professionals with experience of working in a school and outside the UK/Ireland and of individuals from a Black, Asian or minority ethnic background.
Call for Expressions of Interest
We seek expressions of interest from any CASE member with experience of managing any of the Advancement activities: fundraising, alumni relations, communications or marketing. Candidates must have a strategic outlook and be committed to guiding CASE’s mission: “As a catalyst for advancing education worldwide, we inspire, challenge, and equip communities of professionals to act effectively and with integrity to champion the success of their institutions.”
We would especially welcome interest from candidates who:
- Work in a school
- Are located in Continental or Northern Europe
To make our Council more representative of the educational communities we serve, we encourage applications from candidates who are from a Black, Asian or minority ethnic background, are aged under 40 or have a disability.
If you know someone who you believe would be ideally suited to this role, please do encourage them to apply. We are only able to accept applications directly from individuals, rather than nominations, but we are aware that some excellent candidates may value a nudge.
Applications to join the Cabinets are now closed. If you are interested in CASE's volunteer leadership opportunities, please get in touch by emailing europe@case.org
Hear from current Council Members
“As the first in my family to go to university and growing up in an economically deprived area, I have seen firsthand the transformational impact of Higher Education. Unfortunately, our sector has not always been so effective at serving and amplifying the voices of minorities and those with protected characteristics. I see CASE as a vehicle for change, which motivated my application to join its Council for Europe. As a member, I have the privilege of interacting with colleagues from across Europe and am pleased to play a part in supporting them to achieve more for their institutions and share their achievements widely.”
“I believe CASE needs the insights of members based in continental Europe who can help make its mission relevant and appropriate to colleagues working in the different institutional environment in that part of the region. From my experience of working with small nonprofits in different sectors, I understand the importance of institutional readiness for developing advancement activities, and I’m keen to share what's needed with others.”
"This position offers an excellent opportunity to engage with and learn from CASE leadership and colleagues on the CASE Council, with the shared aim of supporting Advancement globally. Working with the CASE Council has given me the time and the inspiration to look at the Alumni Relations programme at EMBL with more distance, ambition, and bold creativity. I’ve particularly enjoyed learning how CASE manages its volunteer organisation, and exploring how I can contribute to its offerings and priorities, which means expanding my networks and thinking more broadly."
