5 Phrases to Stop Using at Work
What we say to others helps create our work culture. Communications in healthy work environments value civility—being polite, considerate, and respectful even in disagreements. With that in mind, there are some commonly-used phrases that should be avoided in the workplace.
In an article on the CNBC Make It website, contributors Adaira Landry and Resa E. Lewiss list several phrases to avoid and provide alternate ways to express yourself.
Among the 10 phrases they say should be removed from workplace discussions:
- We’ve always done it this way.
- Back in my day, we had it worse.
- We went with [person] because they have more experience.
- Can you document that incident in an email?
- I am not feeling well today, but I will power through the day.
