6 Career Tips from Successful Women
By Ileana Ruiz
Achieving career success is not easy. You are dealing with deadlines, colleagues, supervisors, and all sorts of workday issues. So how do you get ahead when you are up against the daily grind?
“One of the best ways to empower ourselves for success is to listen to the wise words of those who have carved out their paths before us,” writes Catriona Harvey-Jenner in a recent issue of Marie Claire magazine. She shares six pieces of advice offered by trailblazing women in their industries to help push yourself to be the best you can be at work:
- Find your champions. Identify people who believe in you and your efforts. They will help you to build your confidence through their confidence in you.
- Stick to your values. Values create the most authentic groundwork and purposeful life. Identifying what values are important to you and building a career that is closely aligned with them will provide you with satisfaction at work.
- Know your boundaries. Getting comfortable and confident enough to challenge ideas when needed, and learning politely but firmly to say ‘no,’ will help you set boundaries.
- Never stop learning. There is always a new skill and strategy for you to adopt. One of the best ways to do this is by reading articles and studies, reading books, and watching YouTube videos.
- Celebrate your successes. Throughout your career, there are moments for you to celebrate your big and small victories. One way to do so is by including the supporters that have helped you in different ways.
- Know your worth outside of work. Self-worth is not based on what others think of you or the things you have accomplished. You are a great person regardless of where you are on your career ladder.
