7 Ways to Power Up Your Productivity
Wondering how to achieve more when it seems like there isn’t enough time in the day? Sometimes a boost in motivation and creativity can fuel productivity. Here are some strategies to try.
- Create a specific to-do list. Instead of writing a “to-do” list for the day, split it into two lists: “must do” and “could do.”
- Be held accountable. If you’re having trouble accomplishing task, try finding people or groups that will hold you accountable. For example, join a Toastmasters club if you want to become a better public speaker or get a coworker to go the gym with you on your lunch hour.
- Stoke your creativity. Find ways to shake up your routine and engage your brain in new ways. Revisit an activity you enjoyed as a child. Or try something completely different, such as writing a limerick or sculpting with clay. Write each day in a one-sentence journal. Talk to someone who inspires you. Spend time in nature, read a book, or visit a museum.
- Vary intensity. Do something low-effort—such as reading the news or checking email—before moving on to a high-intensity project.
- Stretch. Take a break from work to stretch—it helps you relax, relieves stress, and boosts concentration.
- Take a photo. For certain long-term projects, taking regular photos records your progress, making you motivated to keep going.
- Clean up. Clear off your desk at the end of every workday.
