CASE Appoints Advancement Leader to New Executive Director of Volunteer and Member Engagement (United States and Canada)
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Council for Advancement and Support of Education has appointed Beth Smith to the newly created position of executive director of volunteer and member engagement for United States and Canada, effective Sept. 4, 2018.
Smith previously served as the executive director of alumni relations at Arkansas State University and has been a long-time CASE volunteer. She has held numerous volunteer leadership roles for CASE, including serving as the District IV trustee on the CASE Board of Trustees, chair of the District Chairs Council, and member of the Commission on Alumni Relations. She has also been actively engaged in the governance redesign process at CASE.
As executive director of volunteer and member engagement, Smith will work within the United States and Canada region to achieve CASE's strategic goal of increasing member engagement and loyalty, design and direct strategies that enhance member affinity, identify opportunities to grow CASE membership, and steward senior-level volunteers. She will also play a lead role in helping CASE launch the new U.S. and Canada Regional Council.
Sue Cunningham, president and CEO of CASE, says the establishment of this position emphasizes CASE's commitment to the dedicated members in the U.S. and Canada regions.
"As we advance our ambitions to support our membership as OneCASE, I am excited to see Beth Smith as the first holder of this position," Cunningham says. "Beth brings excellent professional experience combined with a deep understanding of CASE and our mission as a past volunteer. I know that Beth will bring great warmth, insight and wisdom to this role in support of more than 3,600 member institutions and working in close partnership with our many volunteers."
Smith says that the opportunity to work with CASE in advancing education in the U.S. and Canada is a dream job.
"As a longtime volunteer for CASE, I know firsthand the attention the staff and volunteers provide to educational institutions to help them do their best work," Smith explains. "In my new role as a member of the staff, I look forward to being part of the team working to ensure we continue to assess needs and respond with information, research and data-sharing related to best practices."
