CASE Appoints Advancement Leader to New Research and Data Officer Role
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Council for Advancement and Support of Education has appointed Fred Weiss to the newly created position of chief research and data officer and a member of the executive team, effective July 1.
A leader in the higher education advancement community with more than 20 years of experience, Weiss served as president and CEO of iModules Software Inc., before joining CASE as a strategic advisor in October 2017.
As chief research and data officer, Weiss will have primary accountability for global data and strategic responsibility for data collection, analysis and reporting. He will manage all of CASE's research and data initiatives, including the recently announced AMAtlas, a global resource for educational advancement-related metrics, benchmarks and analytics. Amongst other responsibilities, Weiss also will provide strategic oversight to DRIVE, CASE's reporting and analytics conference.
Sue Cunningham, president and CEO of CASE, says Weiss's proven experience in data and research and his knowledge of the advancement profession are invaluable as CASE moves to build an integrated global data and research strategy, which is a primary goal of CASE's strategic plan, Reimaging CASE 2017-2021.
"CASE has long experience producing advancement-related research. This effort will bring together that global experience and data comprehensively, with our goal of serving as a locus of global data across all advancement disciplines for our 3,700 institutional members and more than 91,000 advancement practitioners," says Cunningham. "We are thrilled that Fred will be shepherding this effort with the wise counsel of an advisory group of volunteers led by Lori Houlihan, vice-provost, development, University College, London, and Charlie Phlegar, vice president for advancement, Virginia Tech."
Weiss is a long-time volunteer for CASE, having served in a variety of volunteer positions, including as an inaugural member of the Industry Advisory Council, twice a CASE Board Member, and a long-time speaker at CASE conferences. His association with CASE started in 1986, when he was named a CASE District I scholar.
"I'm excited about the opportunity for CASE to deliver more value for its global membership by supporting data-driven decision making," says Weiss. "We've got a wonderful set of existing data sources, and I'm eager to supplement and cross-pollinate them."
