CASE Welcomes New Board Chair Sergio Gonzalez
Advancement leader and longtime CASE volunteer Sergio Gonzalez began his term as chair of the CASE Board of Trustees on July 1.
Gonzalez, Senior Vice President for Advancement at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, U.S., has been a member of the CASE Board since 2011, serving as treasurer and secretary. He served as chair of the U.S./Canada Regional Council and has been a key member of the CASE Commission on Philanthropy and steering committees for the CASE 50, the CASE Strategic Plan, Global Governance, and more.
At Brown, Gonzalez oversees all advancement areas across the institution—including development, alumni relations, corporate and foundation relations, international advancement, the Brown Sports Foundation, and the Brown Annual Fund—and leads the $4 billion Brown Together campaign. Before coming to Brown, Gonzalez was Senior Vice President for University Advancement and External Affairs at the University of Miami in Florida, U.S., from 2001 to 2017, and held multiple roles in the Miami-Dade County government.
With a long history of civic and volunteer service, Gonzalez has served on boards for UnidosUS (the nation’s largest Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization), the Miami-Dade Homeless Trust, and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. He is also a Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute, which recognizes leadership, community involvement, and professional success.
"I am honored to serve in this leadership role and support the wonderful work of our CASE staff and volunteers," says Gonzalez. "I am most excited about the opportunities we have as an organization to continue to support and elevate our members in the work they do daily to transform lives and society.”
Joining Gonzalez as CASE Board officers are Chair-elect Fritz Schroeder, Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations at Johns Hopkins University; Treasurer Rachel Sandison, Deputy Vice Chancellor, External Engagement at the University of Glasgow; and Secretary Matthew Lambert, Vice President of University Advancement at the College of William and Mary. They begin their terms on July 17. Gonzalez stepped into the Board Chair role July 1 as Terry Flannery transitioned to CASE’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
