Chuck Rettig Sworn in as IRS Commissioner
After an eleven month wait, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) finally has a new commissioner.
Chuck Rettig, confirmed by the Senate with 64-33 votes, was sworn in on Oct. 1, 2018, as the 49th commissioner of the IRS. He was first nominated seven months prior.
Given his experience, Commissioner Rettig is expected to focus on data security, tax-related identity theft, the internal IT infrastructure at the IRS and preparing for the 2019 filing season. He is also expected to focus on the agency's efforts to provide guidance on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Commissioner Rettig has not indicated how/if oversight of the educational institutions and the charitable sector will be a priority.
