Giving to U.K. Institutions: Takeaways from Ross-CASE Report
Giving to U.K. higher education institutions is strong and steady, according to CASE research.
Institutions raised £979 million in 2016-2017, according to the most recent edition of the Ross-CASE Survey, released in late July. This is the second-highest total giving amount since CASE launched the survey in 2000. More than 100 institutions across England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland participated in the survey.
One big takeaway: the number of donors giving to U.K. institutions grew 7 percent from last year. According to the survey, 246,056 individuals (up from 229,959) gave. Alumni donors made up 80 percent of individual donors. Nearly 211 donors gave new gifts or pledges of more than £500,000 each.
"More individuals and businesses are donating than ever before because they believe in the power of our institutions to transform lives and society," says Tricia King, CASE's vice president of global operation. The survey results, she says, paint a picture of a sector that is in robust good health.
