Self-Care Strategies for a Productive Workday
Making self-care a priority is essential for a productive workday. By nurturing your physical and mental well-being, you can stay recharged and ready for any challenge. Here are some tips to make self-care a daily habit.
- Shift your thinking. Taking care of yourself is not indulgent or a waste of time—it’s helping you become more resilient and energetic.
- Avoid all-or-nothing thinking. If you are trying to establish a new self-care habit, don’t give up if, for instance, you skip a day of exercise or don’t get enough sleep. Just recalibrate the next day.
- Make small changes. Identify one or two small changes you can make this week, such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator. If you are happy with the change, keep it going.
- Find an accountability buddy. Ask a trusted friend, family member, or colleague to check in on you regularly to make sure you are making self-care a priority.
- Delegate. Managers who are working long hours might not be delegating to staff. If this describes you, identify three tasks that you can delegate.
- Don’t neglect self-care on the road. When traveling for work, check to see if your hotel has a gym. Sign up for a fitness class, use your favorite workout app, or try a YouTube workout.
- Identify what helps you relax. It will be different for everyone—for instance, some people find cooking relaxing while others find it stressful. Make time for relaxing activities.
