In April of 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic continued to impact our nation, and the feelings of uncertainty gripped our world, the focus of the Westminster College community continued to be on supporting our current students. The leadership of the college began to anticipate the growing financial hardships, such as parental job loss, limited opportunities for summer employment, and for many the need to help pay family living expenses. We quickly realized that these challenges would impact the student’s ability to complete their education.
Many of the broader Westminster community were asking, “How can we help?” In response to this growing need and desire to help, we launched the Bring Back the Titans campaign, in which 100% of the donated dollars would go directly to retaining current students despite financial hardships. The goal of the campaign was $250,000 and, due to the overwhelming support from all levels of constituencies, we exceeded all expectations and raised $1.8M from 850 donors.
