“El Americano”
From the Nominator
For 75 years, CAG has fostered an educational footprint in Guatemala by inspiring students to lead meaningful lives through academic excellence, cultivating critical thinkers, and offering students the opportunity to become active citizens in an ever-growing global society.
To honor our school's 75th anniversary, we had planned various celebrations throughout the year. Each celebration was focused on different stakeholders, with age-appropriate activities. Little did we know, a global pandemic would shift the direction of our plans. What seemed like a catastrophe at first resulted in a recorded history of our school that has resonated with each and every member of our community.
A documentary was part of our original plan; we worked on the interviews, gathered information, and compiled photographs and memories for over a year. However, this was just one of our many initiatives. It was directed to our older alumni, and we were going to invite a handful of honored legacy to watch the premiere. After realizing that this would be our one source of celebration, our entire strategy shifted, and we deep-dived into creating a new concept for our documentary; we would turn it into a series.
In less than a month, we created a new concept, inspired by the latest trends in the streaming industry; we decided to make a documentary series and tell our story in eight compiled episodes. Each episode touched a different generation, and created a sense of community no matter their age or how long they had been a part of CAG.
