Together Apart
From the Nominator
Faced with an unprecedented worldwide novel coronavirus pandemic, the Chico State campus community had to make a quick adjustment to suspend in-person instruction. This forced students outside the classroom and into computer screens, faculty to find new places to teach from, and activities pressured to adjust to isolated environments. A photo essay depicting the spring 2020 semester features how the campus community was “Together Apart,” and united to slow the spread of COVID-19.
The collection of images focuses on the environments that people were transitioning to work in, whether that was in their home, a spare room, the hallway, in a car, or in a closet. Every person adapted to a new space that was different from the traditional classroom, but still found ways to connect with one another and support our educational mission, whether in their role as student, faculty, or staff. The series of photographs shows how learning continues beyond the confines of a classroom, how we rise to support one another through hardship, and the resilient nature of those that value higher education.
