Alumni Snapchat Takeover Series
About the entry
In a recent survey, four out of five students told the University of Glasgow they wanted to connect with alumni. How, the university asked itself, do we offer this when experiencing decreasing numbers at events, lack of student confidence in networking and time impoverished alumni? In March 2017, the University of Glasgow Alumni Volunteering team piloted a Snapchat takeover with five local alumni working at the Beatson Cancer Charity near to campus. This 24-hour broadcast of behind-the-scenes content into graduates' working lives had over 61,000 views—the equivalent of filling Glasgow Celtic's Parkhead Stadium!
From the Judges' Report
We felt that this institution was able to capitalize on a technology that is currently relevant for students, inexpensive for alumni relations, and easy to scale. We felt that this program brought relevance to career programming to students that may see traditional networking/mentoring programs as antiquated.
