Ohio University has hosted a triennial Black Alumni Reunion (BAR) since the early 1990s. Prior to the 2016 reunion the OHIO Alumni Association (OAA) faced some issues around the background of the event, with many members of the constituency feeling marginalized and disrespected. In response, the alumni association developed a committee of black alumni volunteers comprising representatives from different decades to plan the reunion and handle communications.

Judges all agreed that the campaigned did an excellent job incorporating students and alumni through an enjoyable social event. Similarly, by understanding students and alumni needs, Ohio University was able to come up with a creative idea to bring together a large crowd with small financial resources.
