Two pillars of the mission of The Association of Former Students (Texas A&M University's alumni organization) are to, "promote the interests and welfare of Texas A&M University," and, "perpetuate ties of affection and esteem formed in university or college days." In May 2017, an opportunity to work on a project tied to those two pillars presented itself when Texas A&M University received word that the remains of a former student (alumni) whose family had donated his Aggie Ring to the Aggie Ring collection had been found.
