Grow California Together, developed in partnership with the University of California's state government relations and marketing/communications teams, is an advocacy theme that serves as a framing device for all of UC's advocacy efforts directed at the California state legislature. The goal of this advocacy theme is to underscore the ongoing growth at UC: growth of California undergraduate students, growth of research, growth of innovation and entrepreneurship, and growth of social mobility for Californians, to name a few. It also orients engagement with lawmakers in a more positive, shoulder-to-shoulder way.

Judges felt the UC Office of the President’s Grow California Together entry, designed to build support for public higher ed in California, had an effective message with strong branding that connected the campaign to the state’s identity. The campaign smartly focuses on the essential partnership between UC and state government in growing the state. Judges also liked that the campaign was designed to be a multi-year effort and thought it was certainly a campaign that could be replicated by public university systems in other states.
