About the entry
This short film documents the fast-paced, eight-day musical adventure enjoyed by the Harvard Jazz Band on their first tour in 25 years.
From the Judges' Report
The source material certainly didn’t hurt, but Harvard’s winning entry deftly portrayed the colorful sights and sounds of the Harvard Jazz Band’s Cuban residency. No mere travelogue, the tightly edited and carefully scripted piece truly captured a side of the island few tourists will glimpse. The academic underpinning of the cultural exchange also wasn’t sacrificed, with band leader, Cuban native and Harvard faculty member Yosvany Terry serving as a literal and figurative bridge between the American art form and its Pan-American influences.
