HB Magazine
About the entry
The primary goal of HB Magazine is to keep members of the Hathaway Brown community connected with the school and with each other. It is published twice annually and distributed to current parents, current and former faculty and administrators, alumnae, donors, and other friends of the school, including members of the media.
From the Judges' Report
The HB Magazine has very strong design and content lending itself to its desired audience. Their feature article was very creative having current students interviewing alumnae. One judge commented, “I got a really strong sense of campus life and pride.” They made good design choices using a mix of large and small photos throughout. Make sure to watch line justification during the design layout. A couple of articles had some issues with line spacing. They have a stunning incorporation of student art throughout; not only was art used as large simple images, but as abstract shapes, clean cut-outs, clipped in headlines, used as spacers, and placed creatively in collages. The design is very simple and they really used the art as their main pops of color. Lots of white space so the eye is not overwhelmed with the busy art. You can tell a lot of time was spent to flow all of the content in in a creative, clean and unique way.
