Peddie Chronicle
About the entry
The Peddie Chronicle is the prime source of institutional information for the majority of our alumni. The goal of the Peddie Chronicle is to nurture an appreciation for the school in ways that will increase alumni engagement and encourage alumni to maintain a positive relationship with their alma mater. The school's office of strategic marketing and communications publishes the magazine twice a year, in the spring and fall, and distributes it to approximately 10,000 alumni, families and friends of the school. It is digitally available through issuu.com, and selected content is published on peddie.org.
From the Judges' Report
The redesign of the Peddie Chronicle really paid off. They did a wonderful job capturing the essence of the school and all the things that make it special. One judge said, “It felt accessible to both the younger and older generations of alumni at the school.” The graphics were very engaging and made really good use of bold colors and interesting fonts. The print quality is just outstanding. Another judge commented, “Gorgeous. Best in class for me. I love how the magazine embodies the character of the school.” The well-written articles draw in the reader. The article about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. speaking at Peddie in 1957 before he was well-known was such an interesting and historical read. Peddie has an interesting and unique pastel color palette. It has a great pop-art feel to it with solid color backgrounds contrasted with drop-shadowed image cut-outs. One judge noted to keep the angles of the drop shadows consistent as some go left and some go right. The illustrations are fantastic and add to the pop-art vibe. There is a lot of use of simple shapes throughout (circles and squares) for section labels and infographics. We would increase the leading in the body copy to make the amount of copy more digestible.
