From the Judges' Report
- Impressive execution, multilayered and nuanced, especially for a digital piece of art
- Resisted temptation to slap labels on a homeless man, resulting in a portrait of respect and beauty
- Beautifully illustrated & sensitive; makes one want to understand the meaning and symbolism of the artwork.
- Great composition that expresses the loneliness of the article.
- Creative approach for a difficult/sensitive topic
- The illustration captures the man in his isolation and disconnection in a way that is both moving and respectful. The black tree trunk framing him seems to symbolize his entrapment in his circumstances. I love that it is also shaped as a Y, as if posing a question.
- The depiction of the wooded campsite helps to communicate the depths of his humanity. Man is shown partially turning away from us showing his choice to remove himself from our world.
- Illustration has a quiet beauty/sadness that is communicated through the use of color and environment.
