"What It Takes" is an innovative series of alumni talks designed specifically for University of Westminster students and alumni within three years of graduation. Each event offers an engaging insight into a relevant topic delivered by one or more of our diverse mix of confident alumni speakers who have achieved something amazing, overcome barriers to success or exceeded expectations in their careers to date. The events take place on a regular basis, usually once or twice a month, and are created to inspire and motivate students and new alumni getting started in their careers. There are a variety of different event formats including TED-style talks, panel events and interactive workshops.

This career focused program stood out because of its clear focus on students and young alumni, relevant topics, and clear connections to personal stories, challenges, and triumphs of the speakers. This create a career series and program with layers and nuance. By drawing a connection to career success and identity we felt that students were exposed to real-world topics in a safe venue. The panel also felt that this program was able to engage a diverse cadre of alumni speakers. We felt that this program could be replicated at any university and would enhance campus collaborations.
