You Set Everything in Motion
About the entry
This video was part of a multimedia campaign to promote year-end giving to OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
From the Judges' Report
Right off the bat, part of what made this video stand out was due to what was missing: music. We were immediately drawn in to the sound of the volleyball court and strong young woman blocking, spiking and bumping the ball. This is Kya’s story, but we never hear from Kya. The story is told by her mother, who remembers the harrowing experience of almost losing Kya. The music eventually fades in but is never distracting. The visuals are intimate and put you in the scene. Drone shots are used sparingly for greater storytelling effect. For being unscripted, the story arc is beautifully edited and never lags (this took a LOT of work to get right). By the end, there is no doubt of the importance of what OHSU does, how it saves and changes lives, and what a gift to OHSU can help achieve. This is a good example of the importance of doing the legwork on the front-end to identify the best stories, and doing so in an authentic way. The budget vs. the return (i.e., meeting the fundraising goal) was impressive. Moral of the entry: Find your best stories, and work hard to tell them in a way that truly honors people.
