Dartmouth’s Centennial Circle and the Power of Women Who Give
From the Nominator
In 2014, Dartmouth College alumnae decided to close the gender gap in annual fund giving. Their strategy for success was simple: work collaboratively rather than competitively with fellow alumni to advance the college’s mission. With its inclusive, community-oriented approach to philanthropy, the Centennial Circle continues to broaden its impact at Dartmouth while setting a national example for how to engage women in the power of giving. To date, the Centennial Circle has attracted 221 members who have given in excess of $100 million to a wide range of Dartmouth initiatives, and the giving gender gap has shrunk by half.
From the Judges
The judges found Dartmouth's theme, planning, and implementation inspiring. This was a very creative approach to fundraising; one that is obviously effective for their institution but can also be replicated for others. [It is] a national example for how to engage women in the power of giving.
