"Early-Morning Learning"
From the Nominator
This photo shows an undergraduate student and professor working at a blackboard, bathed in early-morning sunlight. The photo accompanied a story about the student on the ClarkNow news hub.
From the Judges
This is a beautifully-executed photo that has a candid appearance and authentically captures an early morning teaching and learning moment. True to Clark’s motto, it challenges convention. Photos of teacher and student at the chalkboard are common, but this one uniquely tells a story through light. The warm, natural light pulls you into this photo, and the gestures of the figures move you through to the chalkboard. The learning is evident and believable, not contrived. It is almost magical. There is also a strong sense of dedication and mentorship, and the judges appreciated the decision to show two females teaching and learning quantum physics, a field typically dominated by men.
