Education at the Speed of Industry
From the Nominator
In a construction industry that expects to have 2 million fewer workers than it will need, Tempe, Arizona-based Sundt Construction, Inc. and Central Arizona College, located in Pinal County, Arizona are working on unique ways to recruit and train skilled workers. Being responsive to local industry is a role in which community colleges are uniquely positioned and, as demonstrated by this partnership, the quality of the relationship determines the success of the outcomes. An approach that fully integrates industry in designing the curriculum, in the classroom, and in providing hands-on experience, students are the recipients of a well-grounded academic and experiential education. They are beneficiaries of post-secondary degrees and/or certificates that lead to career paths that provide better than living wage jobs with a growth future in Arizona.
