Hathaway Brown Viewbook
From the Nominator
We're thrilled to share this new publication about what it means to learn and grow at Hathaway Brown, a special place that's home to students of all ages from all across the northeast region of Ohio. Follow along with us as we trace HB's beginning in 1876, when five enterprising girls became early champions of women's education, petitioning the head of the all-boys Brooks Military Academy to enroll them there. What started as Afternoon Classes for Young Ladies has become what's widely regarded as one of the premier educational institutions in the country.
From the Judges
Brown and gold might not seem like a dynamic color palette. But Hathaway Brown, an independent K-12 day school, embraced this color combination with a rich, full-bleed, gold cover that pairs well with the positioning statement on the cover: “She rises boldly to the challenges of her times.” With that statement, Hathaway Brown appeals to students and parents alike, positioning the all-girls school as relevant and transformational. The viewbook pairs declarative statements of purpose (“She is discovered” / “She is embraced and encouraged” / “She is prepared”) with quotes from women throughout history while also illustrating the confidence of the student body through gorgeous, posed portraits of the school’s students.
