Launching the Urban Adaptation Assessment
From the Nominator
The University of Notre Dame’s Global Adaptation Initiative (ND-GAIN) is currently leading a multi-channel public relations campaign to release the Urban Adaptation Assessment (UAA), an open-access climate adaptation assessment tool that allows users to measure and analyze a city’s adaptability to climate change. This interactive database profiles over 270 cities within the United States, to be a decision-support tool as city leaders plan for a changing climate.
From the Judges
The judges awarded the launch of the Urban Adaptation Assessment a Bronze for its multi-channel approach and communications strategy. The judges appreciated how the campaign identified different audiences and communicated a variety of messages from a central positioning document. Combining a digital strategy (social, email, video) with a print and in-person (conference) approach helped cast a wider net. While most universities create tools for the benefit the local economy and other organizations, very rarely is there momentum behind the tool with such unified messaging and campaign components. Not only that, the campaign included internal documentation to help sustain and amplify its reach.
