From March 25 to 31, 2018, the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra held its inaugural international concert tour, with three performances in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. The tour presented unprecedented opportunities for Northwestern to engage its alumni in Asia and grow its global reputation. To maximize these opportunities, departments throughout the university came together to develop and implement numerous activities to engage Northwestern alumni, volunteers, benefactors, and prospective students in China and throughout the world.

The team at Northwestern University developed a solid plan that involved interdisciplinary planning. Planning any activity in a foreign country is not business as usual. The promotion of the events were great, they set long-term timelines to set themselves up to achieve and clear goals and outcomes from the start of the project. This practice is one the can be emulated and personifies the idea of doing business as feeling.
