Our Road to the Final Four: Four Days, 10 Events and a National Championship
From the Nominator
Villanova University experienced its second trip to the NCAA Final Four Championships in two years. San Antonio was the backdrop to 4 days, 10 events and thousands of Villanova alumni that concluded with a national championship celebration. Pre-game receptions, a high-end donor event and an Easter Mass for 3,000 were just some of the highlights. San Antonio was a sea of blue and white wherever you turned. It took numerous people and a lot of coordination to produce a weekend that left people talking. Villanova once again showed they were not only stars on the court, but in showing the Villanova pride throughout San Antonio.
From the Judges
Villanova University's efforts demonstrated excellence in managing multiple events over a high profile weekend in a manner that showed they truly understood their constituency. This was clear in their decision to honor the Easter weekend and provide an Easter Brunch and Mass to their audience, in addition to the expected Final Four type of activities. Rather than a divide and conquer approach, there was central oversight of the multiple events, with success and careful attention to keeping their attendees engaged and informed. The phone app and use of technology to move registration and attendance to an online platform was a great model for institutions who host these types of complex and fast-moving multi-day events.
