From the Nominator
The evening was designed to provide students an opportunity to learn more about Grand Valley’s history and the role African Americans played in helping lay the foundation of diversity at our university. Through storytelling, the intention was for students to walk away with a better understanding of the challenges and struggles that the panelists dealt with as Grand Valley was just beginning as a college and the Civil Rights movement was in full swing.

This was a terrific program celebrating diversity and university firsts. The student connection to trailblazers highlighted alumni success and the institution's reputation. The community component was also important.
