Students supporting each other—making mental health visible during Welcome 2018
From the Nominator
The University of Nottingham has a team of student Digital Ambassadors who share their experiences of university life through social media content throughout each year. Their work supports student recruitment and engagement and helps the university stay relevant to a key audience.
From the Judges
From the smooth integration of so many social media channels, to the use of students to tell the stories, to the choice of subject matter for this campaign, the University of Nottingham knocked it out of the park. Most of us associate student life themes with fun, energetic, and friend-/group-oriented topics, so it was not only refreshing, it was smart and resourceful to bring mental health awareness into the digital spaces where students already live. The Nottingham team included students from a range of stages in their academic careers in an authentic, first-person style that encouraged engagement and spread important messages. They clearly understood their target audience; they created content that was thoughtfully planned, but not over-produced; and they undertook an especially important topic—often not seen in this way on social media—at a crucial time of the year that likely made a real impact in the lives of their students. Very well done.
