Veritalk (Harvard University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences)
From the Nominator
Veritalk is your window into the minds of PhDs at Harvard University. Each three-episode miniseries of Veritalk is themed around a big idea, like “Monsters” or “Cities.” In each episode, we dive into that theme through the research of a student or alum in one of Harvard’s many PhD programs. Topics include a biologist’s take on why King Kong can’t climb buildings, a public policy student on why we should all love potholes, and a Celtic literature student on the secret history of man-eating mermaids.
From the Judges
This podcast is very interesting and well produced. The engaging structure of the podcast—three episode mini-series centered on a theme—helps this entry stand out. This structure keeps the content interesting for the listener, as well as drawing connections between various areas of work and research. The focus on PhD students and alumni was neat to see. Harvard has made academics seem normal and everyday in a very good way. One of the largest struggles for an institution is making academic work digestible to the general public. Harvard accomplishes this by using a conversational tone and focusing on the real-world aspects of research.
