Villanova University is Live! Social Media Brings Donors Closer to the Action
From the Nominators
Villanova University’s second giving day, 1842 Day, aimed to reach 5,000 donors in 24 hours. To accomplish this, we needed to bring our audience closer to the action and showcase the student experience like never before. Keith Jones (Villanova alumnus and NBC10 Philadelphia news anchor) returned as Villanova’s official 1842 Day correspondent, appearing on Villanova’s social media pages and utilizing Facebook Live, Instagram Live, and Instagram Stories.
From the Judges
Villanova University devised a novel strategy for its giving day—a real-time broadcast that visited different parts of campus impacted by giving. Along the way, the university delivered compelling video experiences. The Facebook Live platform provided users with easy access and immediacy, while Philadelphia news anchor Keith Jones served as a recognizable and endearing correspondent. Villanova showed admirable attention to detail throughout its videos. It was clear that the university had planned and scripted a number of elements in advance, especially given the movement and location changes throughout, but the end product nevertheless felt raw, authentic, and, most of all, fun.
