Western Reserve Academy (WRA) is a boarding and day school for grades 9-12 in Ohio, founded in 1826. Ranked among the best boarding schools in the U.S. and with an endowment exceeding $115 million, our school nonetheless faces contemporary challenges. Boarding has lost some of its luster in the helicopter mom generation and as excellent school choices have multiplied. Public schools are sending as many students to top colleges. Negative headlines about boarding are de rigueur. Add to these factors an Ohio location (where the inclination to board is not necessarily in the DNA) and it all stacks up to enrollment challenges.
