Bowdoin Magazine, Spring/Summer 2019
From the Nominator
Bowdoin Magazine is the manifestation of a relationship between its readers and Bowdoin College. It connects those readers to Bowdoin’s mission and spirit, its aspirations, and both its past and its future. It aims to inform, educate, and inspire based on the college’s work and culture and through a consideration of the accomplished lives and impact of a global Bowdoin community. With compelling narratives, powerful visuals, and a personal touch, it tells the story of an exceptional college based in Maine and rooted in the common good.
From the Judges
The magazine aims to tell a story of “an exceptional college rooted in the common good” and goes further with extremely attractive use of color and images throughout, some provided by alumni. There's a playful use of images (ice cream scoops) mixed with lively illustrations and beautiful, professional portrait photography. The unusual size format also made the magazine stand out. Fascinating, close-up insect photos from alumni created a particularly dramatic and engaging feature. Excellent work for an in-house team, with personality as well as an eye for beautiful design.
