Email is a powerful communication tool when designed and delivered with the recipient in mind. The BYU student email was created to cut through the digital noise and reach students directly with information that met their pressing needs and wants. Every two weeks students receive a skim-able update from the university that includes important dates and deadlines, helpful resources and benefits available to the students, personal notes from campus leaders about important university issues, and unique opportunities to enrich their education beyond classwork.

From understanding the target audience to making an impact and achieving results, this student email met all the judging criteria. Though it's a simple student email, it's sophisticated. That's because the internal communications team got out of its own way to give the audience what it wants, not what the school thinks it wants. In an increasingly noisy digital world, the less-is-more approach is a great way to capture attention. The impressive open-and-click rates prove that. The way the team combined resources while keeping the sections and wording consistent is a win-win for all.
