Cutting Through The Noise: Empowering Students via Email
From the Nominator
Email is a powerful communication tool when designed and delivered with the recipient in mind. The BYU student email was created to cut through the digital noise and reach students directly with information that met their pressing needs and wants. Every two weeks students receive a skim-able update from the university that includes important dates and deadlines, helpful resources and benefits available to the students, personal notes from campus leaders about important university issues, and unique opportunities to enrich their education beyond classwork. Before the student email newsletter, students were bombarded and buried by an overwhelming number of emails from university departments and groups. With no regulation, campus departments battled against one another for the students’ attention, blasting single-subject emails (relevant to a very small audience) to the entire student body. Now students have a dedicated, streamlined communication channel they trust––84% of students open and read the student email.
